Where’s a pleasantly plump, fluent Yiddish speaking grandmother when you need one? Because there are a few people in New York City who need a slap across the head while asked the question, “Are you meshuggeneh!?!”
In a 29-1 vote, with 10 abstentions, a New York City community board voted late Tuesday to support a plan to build a mosque and cultural center near ground zero. Technically, the builders don’t need the approval of the community board. But, hey, why blow a chance to show the world your all-out approval of Islam?
Here’s a few voices of “reason” in favor of the mosque that are sure to make you look for the nearest wall to bang your head against:
"It's a seed of peace," board member Rob Townley said. "We believe that this is a significant step in the Muslim community to counteract the hate and fanaticism in the minority of the community."
"The moderate Muslim voice has been squashed in America," said Bruce Wallace, who said he lost a nephew in the 9/11 attacks. "Here is a chance to allow moderate Muslims to teach people that not all Muslims are terrorists."
Defending his position of denouncing offensive speech directed at him or at Muslims, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer said, "What I want people to do is to take a look at the totality of what they [the Muslims] are proposing. What we're rejecting here is outright bigotry and hatred . . . we have to balance diversity and look for opportunities to bring different groups together." (I don't know about you, but when I look at the "totality" of what Muslims are proposing, it scares the hell out of me.)
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said there were no security concerns about building a mosque in the area. (Yes, I paused at this point too, to LMAO.)
Cultural diversity. Political correctness. Standing up for “moderate” Islam. Hey New York City board, why don’t you ask Europe how that plan is working out for them. You are a disgrace to the victims of 9/11, to their families, to your community, and to your country.
I couldn't agree more, Ms Davis. I think about all those moderate muslims who never raised a voice or hand when their radical members committed acts of terriorism, not only in the past few years, but over the centuries. It confirms to me the old saying: The upholders are as bad as the thieves. New York City (my favorite town to visit), show some backbone, use your toughness and stand for real peace.
